Andre Rouleau wins CMPA kudo

TORONTO Montreal producer Andre Rouleau of Carmel Films has won the 6th annual CMPA Producer's Award of $10,000 (Canadian), it was announced Thursday afternoon at the Toronto film festival. The non-profit industry trade org Canadian Media Production Association (CMPA), formerly the Canadian Film and Television Production Association, shortlisted five nominees from a field of 28 Canuck contenders. Rouleau was chosen by a jury of five Canadian industry players. Rouleau has producer creds on three 2011 Toronto fest titles, including Ken Scott's Quebecois comedy "Starbuck" (Wednesday on the Gala screen) and two hockey-themed pics "Goon" and "Breakaway" (as exec producer), both world preeming in Special Presentations. "I have always been fascinated by the way a story on pages could be translated into images," commented Rouleau, whose producer credits include "Funkytown," "Polytechnique," "Mesrine: Death Instinct" and several more.
